Crafting Companion

granniesI’m always seen sewing as a bit of a solo pursuit. I like to talk to people about sewing but sewing together? Its not exactly as if I can get two sewing machines going at the same time, pay attention to my sewing and hold a conversation.

The same goes for my knitting. Despite being in the Friday knit club at work, I either knit or I talk – I can’t do both. Though I am proud to say that my knitting skills have advanced enough that I can knit while watching Spiral (if you haven’t seen it its an amazing French crime series) – which I’ll have you know requires reading the English subtitles.

That’s partly why I’ve loved blogging, getting to chat to people about projects – works in progress or completed. But as of this evening I have a real, flesh and bone crafting companion. Amy spent another evening with me (there was more craft and less wine this time), starting her project (which I’m sure you can read about later this evening at Sew / Fly / Knits) that I’m helping her with. I got to knit, and chat, and talk about sewing, and cut out my next project, while she prepped her project.

It’s helpful that we live relatively near each other (for London) and work together. But still life does have a tendency to try and rail-road serious crafting pursuits. Hopefully its going to become a regular Thursday night activity!

Do you have a crafting companion?

  1. No, I don’t have a craft companion which is why I also like blogging. Saying that, I would find it difficult to fit in a regular slot. It is so nice to spend time with someone who appreciates what you are doing though. It doesn’t happen enough for me!

    1. Blogging quite good for that isnt it? I still find it amazing how we can have conversations with people from around the world, on a shared interest. People that you might never have reason to interact with the rest of the time (geography aside).
