Anna tunic for my BFF

I love a good rainy Sunday afternoon: Stuart McLean on the Vinyl Cafe on podcast, cup of coffee and my sewing machine. This afternoon I’m not diving into any of my new fabrics from either Japan or the Knitting and Stitching show. Instead I’ve pulled out an ‘old’ fabric I got with my BFF in December from Ditto in Brighton.

She had loved the mushroom print and I promised to make her a top out of it. But I never got around to it. I figure that it will come as a nice surprise for Spring as she’s bound to have forgotten about it by now.

I decided to make Amy Butler’s ‘anna tunic’. I’ve made it a few times for myself – both as a tunic and a dress. I love it – the fit, the yoke, the button holes.  I’ve adapted my technique a little this time. Instead of putting a lining in the body, I used bias binding for the armholes and did a pretty good job if I do say so myself. I wrote a whole blog in the ‘insides’ of the top, for March’s  Monthly Stitch Challenge ‘Inside Out’. You can read about that here.

I love self covered buttons. Especially on prints like this, where you can really pick and choose little unique parts of the print. Then every button is different but still matches! Though to be honest the back yoke doesn’t exactly line up very nicely at the top.

But for a rainy afternoon project it came out just right.
