Hack It! Datura blouse and Laurel dress

18 Jun

The third week’s conest over at IMP2016 is  ‘Hack It!’. We’re invited to “Hack” an indie pattern by altering the design or combining with other indie patterns to create your garment. So I decied to combine the Datura Bouse from Deer & Doe and the Laurel dress from Colette. I’ve made both countless times and knew that combined they’d make the perfect dress.

I used the same crisp, black Japanese poplin that I used to make G.’s shirt back in February. It was wonderful to sew with and washed really well, so I was very pleased to find that they still had some in stock in May. I wrote much more extensively about the hack over on the Monthly Stitch site, which you can read here. I love this dress it came out exactly as I imagined!

Your dress is lovely, the trim finishes it off perfectly, I’ve had the Datura in my D&D basket for a while, I think I’m going to go and buy it.

Thanks – the trim is my favorite part! You should def go for Datura – its a wonderful blouse (I’ve made quite a few versions of it now).

  1. When Datura met Lauel | The Monthly Stitch - June 18, 2016

[…] I used french seams on the side and was really glad to have my edgstitch foot to to the top stitching along the bottom of the yoke and along the bias binding. Because I did an invisble hem I decided to complete the effect by hand stitching the trim on the inside so the triangles would just peak out the bottom. Overall the effect is just perfect! And I am soo pleased with the final result. If you’re interested there are a ton more photos on my blog. […]
