I’m pretty pleased with this year’s sewing and there are much fewer contenders for the #Top5 Misses than last year. In fact I could only find 4 designs that really failed (although one I attempted twice, so that kinda counts as 5 misses right?).

  • Butterick B5466 – While I love the pattern, the fabric I chose was simply too heavy for it I think, as a result it always felt stiff and awkward. The skirt didn’t get worn very often and eventually found it’s way to the charity shop.
  • Silk Cami from Sew Over It – I tried twice (version 1 & 2), but the simplicity of this top, belied the fact that I just couldn’t get the fit right so the neck gaped awkwardly in both versions. These lie abandoned in my sewing corner until I think of a way to upcylce them.
  • Cropped, version B of Bonnie Top – The clue is in the word ‘cropped’ – what was I thinking? That means exposed belly! And my attempts to rectify the situation didn’t really work.I love the fabric and the pattern but this specific top went to the charity shop.
  • Boylston bra – I feel bad including this on the ‘Misses’ as I loved sewing this little beauty and got a real sense of achievement from doing so, but the sizing is so totally wrong I really do POP right out. As a result it sits unworn in my drawer. I plan to try again however until I get it right.
