While my mom taught be to sew when I was young, it wasn’t until a few years ago, when my husband took a risk and bought me a new sewing machine for my birthday, that I became addicted. It was terribly detrimental for my garden, the general state of the house and most of all my bank account!
Here I hope to combine my love for sewing and talking about it, being ridiculous, writing short stories and my secret desire to be a fashion model. Hey any excuse to buy more buttons & bobbins!
But I wouldn’t want you to get the wrong idea about me – I can also split kindling like the best of them, change my own bike tire thank you very much, and I know what to do if someone threw a grenade in my direction (not that they should as its terrible manners).
I started this blog while moonlighting as a housewife in Amsterdam, but now work in international advocacy on disaster risk reduction, climate risk insurance, errr peacebuilding (I’ve done a few different things since I started this blog).
Love it!! “…moonlighting as a housewife, but really I work in peacebuilding and conflict resolution…” What a great description! I laughed out loud 🙂

Hello hello. You’ve inspired me to buy a sewing machine! 😮 If you have any advice about brands, important specs etc I’m all ears :).

Hello! Hurrah for buying a sewing machine. I think Janome does some really good entry level machines and of course Bernina sewing machines are amazing (but perhaps a bit pricey for your first machine). There’s a great shop in Battersea (far away I know) – Direct Sewing Machines, and the guy in there is really helpful.
